Wozniacki Is On Her Way to #1 and Other Tennis Happenings
Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 12:15PM Prepare for it people. By the end of the year, Caroline Wozniacki is going to be World #1. I know, I know, *sigh* we are going to have another "number 1" who hasn't won a major, but we've seen it before (JJ, Safina), and them's the brakes when it comes to the ranking system. She's won 5 tourneys this year, and the system rewards people who play, unlike some of her, ahem, mysteriously injured counterparts. She has been consistent when everyone else is faltering, so in that regard, good for her. (Not necessarily good for the WTA)
In other tennis news, Mikhail Youzhny has won his 2nd tournament this year, beating Andrey Golubev in the Malaysian Open Final, and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who upset Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, went on to win his 2nd ATP title, defeating Jarkko Nieminen at the Thailand Open.
The China Open got underway today and began with a couple of upsets. Samantha Stousr and defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova were both defeated in the first round.

So many players have been inconsistent on the WTA Tour except for Wozniacki, so she deserves it. Still, seeing her in a Slam final this year would have helped ease any doubt in my head about her possible achievement.
And great wins for Garcia-Lopez and Youzhny!
I agree. I was hoping that she would make it to the final at the US Open and put all the doubters to rest. I like Caro, and I think she deserves it, but with Dinara and JJ still lingering in the back of my head, I'm worried that she won't live up to it in Majors. Although I do think she is mentally tougher than them.
