US Open Day 1 & 2: Highlights and Lowlights

You Talkin' To Me?Day 1 Catch Up:
Grigor Dimitrov's kiss seen 'Round The World' or maybe just in Louis Armstrong Stadium. I'll admit, I'm a little jealous of Monfils.
Venus Williams wore a mullet. Seriously.
Day 2 Highlights and Lowlights:
Highlight: There were lots of besties out supporting each other today including: Xavier Malisse watching Steve Darcis win a 5 set battle against Dimitry Tusunov, Alexandr Dolgopolov watching friend and countryman Sergei Bubka who also happens to be the boyfriend of Victoria Azarenka, and Pico's team watching countryman Maximo Gonzalez take on Stanislas Wawrinka. Maximo had the Argentinians fired up after he took the first set, but eventually Stan prevailed in four 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
Bonus: Although she doesn't really fall into this category, I spotted Xisca, as pretty as can be, chillin' in anonymity in front of Arthur Ashe Stadium, until I papped her.
Lowlight: It's the first time since 1971 that all three reigning Slam champions on the women's side did not advance to the 2nd round. One due to injury: Australian Open champion and US Open defending champion Kim Clijsters withdrew before the tournament began, and two due to losses: Roland Garros champion Li Na, and Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova both lost in straight sets.
Consolation Prize: Li Na is always one for a good quote.
Highlight: Who says your birthday wish doesn't come true? Two birthday boys won their first round matches today: Ernests Gulbis who turned 23, defeated the 2010 semifinalist Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets, and Juan Ingacio Chela who turned 32, advanced to the 2nd round after 4 games due to his opponent's retirement.
Lowlight: Today was the first time I got to root for Dima and he did that ugly "C" word. He was up 2 sets to love and then dropped the last 3, with the final set going to a tiebreaker in which I am pretty sure he took a leave of absence. Well, at least he looked pretty.

Mixed bag: Ana Ivanovic's box said, "Welcome Back" to an old friend, boyfriend and professional golfer Adam Scott. (Rory who?) However, Ana also recently suffered the devastating loss of her grandfather causing her some problems during the match that were seemingly related to stress. My thoughts and prayers are with her.
And that's the wrap up. See you tomorrow.
