Reading Room: US Open Wrap Up

I usually like to do my own post wrapping up the US Open:  the hits, the misses, and everything in-between.  Unfortunately this year I'm not able to do that, however there have been a lot of posts by some bloggers and journalists that really embodied my thoughts on the Open.  Here they are:

We know Serena berated another umpire, but is she the victim, the bully, or both?

Another great blog about why Serena is a ticking timebomb.

Novak is rolling in dough setting a prize money record this year, so why isn't Sergio Tacchini able to capitalize on his success?

A great video on all the funny moments at the US Open.

Another video of all the ridiculous shots made by Nole and Rafa during the US Open final.

Why Rafa will always be my favorite player.

and

Samantha Jane Stosur, US Open Champion, would would have guessed?  A good write-up on the champ from her number 1 fan.

Quote of the Tournament

Novak Djokovic on Sean "Diddy" Combs in his player box:

Well, it was great to have him there.  We met at one party that I cannot talk about details.

The Point That Changed Everything

The setting:  Arthur Ashe Stadium, 5th set with Roger Federer serving at 5-3, 40-15 with two match points on his racket.  Novak Djokovic thought the match was over, we, the spectators thought it was over, and more importantly Roger Federer thought it was over.....until it wasn't.  Smiling at the inevitability, Novak leaned down to return the ball and then promptly smacked it for a winner.  The point clearly rattled Federer and inspired Novak, who then went on to break and then win the next three games, advancing to the 2011 US Open Final 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.

Video: Roddick Takes Charge At The US Open

The US Open has had it's fair share of problems this year, from rain delays to players not feeling protected by the tournament.   Today was supposed to be another waterlogged day, but thankfully fans were greeted with blue skies, as the sun and the stars (tennis stars) came out ready to play.  Unfortunately, when Andy Roddick and David Ferrer stepped out on Louis Armstrong Stadium, Andy found a bubble on the court that caused yet another delay.  Initially he was very calm about the situation, even apologizing for bringing up the issue, but he rightfully "flipped his wig" when he took the court the second time, only to find the bubble still present.  Roddick then proceeded to lead Ferrer, the umpires, ball kids, and fans, over to court 13 to finish the match.  Check it out!

Photos: Roger Federer Planking

Roger Federer, never to be outdone, jumped on the "planking" craze while on the practice courts of the US Open.  The problem is, no one is planking anymore, so perhaps we'll see Fed Batmanning soon.
