Serena Williams sings on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'

We all know that Serena Williams LURVS her some karaoke, and after winning her 15th Major title (and becoming the first female athlete to make over $40,000,000 in prize money) she decided to show all of us her dazzling (or ear piercing?) karaoke skills as she belted out Gloria Gaynor's classic, "I Will Survive."  It is so amazing.  Enjoy!

Go to the 3:30 mark for the singing or.....just watch the whole interview!

Andy Murray celebrates like it's 1999

What do you do to celebrate if you just won your first Major at the US Open?  Well, Andy Murray and 30 of his guests went to the trendy NY restaurant, Hakkasan and racked up a sizeable bill of $6448.00.

If you look at the tab closely, you'll see that the drinks contributed $1408.00 to the total bill, and out of all those fancy drinks including "Green Destinies" and "Zesty Martinis" (Judy was that you??), the only thing Andy drank was the $6.00 Lemon Soda!  I guess when you have to be up at the crack of dawn for your media blitz it's a good idea to stay sober, but you would have thought the Scot would have had at least one drink!

In 1999, Andy would have been 12, and I'm pretty sure that is the age I had my last lemon soda.   At least the rest of his party seemed to have a mighty good time....

Andy Murray wins the US Open in typical anticlimactic style

We have become used to a certain style of winning - Rafael Nadal skidding on his heels and then falling on his back, stretched in a full eagle, Novak Djokovic turning into The Hulk and ripping off his shirt and tossing all his clothes into the crowd, and then, of course, there are Roger Federer's tears.  But, leave it to the Brit Andy Murray to give us a new way to celebrate a win (his first) at a Major - grimacing and hobbling as he made his way to his box of supporters on 9 toenails, not to hug them or even smile at them, (although they were all hugging and smiling at each other), but rather just to ask them where he put his Rado watch, the one he forgot to wear in his Wimbledon final.  The security guard who was prepared to lift him into the arms of his loving family and friends even looked slightly confused.

Kim Clijsters Retires at the 2012 US Open

On Day 3 of the 2012 US Open, I got to the grounds early to get a good seat for a particular match, and my preparation paid off as I triumphantly took my seat along the baseline.   But, in retrospect, it wasn't my seat I was grateful for, it was the fact that I happened to be sitting across from the court that Kim Clijsters was on, preparing for her match against Laura Robson later that day in Ashe.

Introducing 'The Stosur Shuffle'

First we had the Petko Dance, then the Petko Dunk, and now we have.........The Stosur Shuffle!  After wining her 2nd round match, Samantha Stosur, who is more known for her biceps/forehand than her personality, broke out into a little dance as a shout out to RedFoo, from LMAO, who was watching the match her box.  She said afterwards in her presser,

I figured, well, there’s only going to be maybe one chance you can do that at the U.S. Open with him there.  I’m sure I looked like a goose. I’m waiting for someone to tell me if it was all right or not.

I wouldn't say she looked like a goose, but I'm not sure it was particularly "right" either.  I do think she could break it down at a wedding doing the chicken dance!  What do you think of Sam's shuffle?

Reading Room: US Open Wrap Up

I usually like to do my own post wrapping up the US Open:  the hits, the misses, and everything in-between.  Unfortunately this year I'm not able to do that, however there have been a lot of posts by some bloggers and journalists that really embodied my thoughts on the Open.  Here they are:

We know Serena berated another umpire, but is she the victim, the bully, or both?

Another great blog about why Serena is a ticking timebomb.

Novak is rolling in dough setting a prize money record this year, so why isn't Sergio Tacchini able to capitalize on his success?

A great video on all the funny moments at the US Open.

Another video of all the ridiculous shots made by Nole and Rafa during the US Open final.

Why Rafa will always be my favorite player.

and

Samantha Jane Stosur, US Open Champion, would would have guessed?  A good write-up on the champ from her number 1 fan.
