Fan Club: The good, the bad, and the crazy

Sometimes, being a manic fan can the most rewarding affliction in the world.  Waving the Swiss flag in 2006, cheering on Novak Djokovic in 2011 in mispronounced Serbian, raising a knee and fist in time with Nadal in 2010; all good.  At some point, though, things take a turn for the worse.  Supporting Federer now without losing your dignity?  It’d be easier to show more grace running naked up the street.  Vamosing on Nadal can’t be easy either, and yelling for Murray?  Well, who said that’s ever been anything but bad news?  But heartbreak won’t stop a true fan.  These are the people that admit they’re a little obsessive, that take the good times with the bad, and don’t stop being crazy for their player just because times are tough.  Chances are, we all have a little mad fan in us. Every week we take a look at one high-profile fan and analyze just how crazy they are...

Today we bring you one of tennis’s most famous fans... Courtney

In Their Words

Ya'll know me still the same ol' G but I been low key.  Hated on by most these ni**as with no cheese, no deals and no G's, no wheels and no keys, no boats, no snowmobiles and no ski's.

-Alexandr Dolgopolov rapping Dr. Dre (check out the video above at around 2:35)

The sun came up again today and everything is still alright.

-Samantha Stosur on her losses at Brisbane and Syndey prior to the start of the Austrailian Open (hopefully she'll still feel this way after her 1st round loss in OZ)

Well first off I'd like to thank you for asking the hard hitting questions.

-Andy Roddick on whether Andrea Petkovic should have retired the Petko Dance

Is there such a thing as a Grand-er Slam?

-Serena Williams on the #KobeSystem

I'm really excited Australia Post has decided to release a souvenir stamp sheet to celebrate my US Open win. The past couple of weeks have been very exciting and I'm still coming to terms with the idea of being a Grand Slam winner. This is something I'll remember forever.

The souvenir stamp sheet will retail for $15.95 and is available from participating Australia Post retail outlets, via mail order on 1800 331 794 or online at www.auspost.com.au/stamps External Link from 29 September 2011 while stocks last.

Reading Room: US Open Wrap Up

I usually like to do my own post wrapping up the US Open:  the hits, the misses, and everything in-between.  Unfortunately this year I'm not able to do that, however there have been a lot of posts by some bloggers and journalists that really embodied my thoughts on the Open.  Here they are:

We know Serena berated another umpire, but is she the victim, the bully, or both?

Another great blog about why Serena is a ticking timebomb.

Novak is rolling in dough setting a prize money record this year, so why isn't Sergio Tacchini able to capitalize on his success?

A great video on all the funny moments at the US Open.

Another video of all the ridiculous shots made by Nole and Rafa during the US Open final.

Why Rafa will always be my favorite player.

and

Samantha Jane Stosur, US Open Champion, would would have guessed?  A good write-up on the champ from her number 1 fan.
