We knew they weren't the best of friends, but I don't think any of us imagined that Andy Roddick once had Novak Djokovic pushed up against a locker at the US Open! Sounds like things would have become more physical if Roddick hadn't realised Djokovic's trainer was the size of a truck. I just wish this was all caught on camera... it's probably about as violent as tennis gets!
Have you ever wondered who your favourite player would be if they were a Hollywood actor or rock star? Tennis players get asked from time to time who they'd chose to represent them in a movie, but often the person they pick is who they admire most, not who resembles them. So here at OnTheGoTennis we have decided to answer these burning questions once and for all.
Y'all wondered where Maria Sharapova was last time we did this. Well, we have her perfect match...
Ok, maybe not the perfect match... but both Gwyneth Paltrow and Maria lead pretty enviable lives. Perfect blonde hair? Tick. Stunning figure? Tick. Wonderful home life? Tick. Successful career? Tick. Humblebragging down to a fine art? Absolutely.
Serbian news outlets are reporting that one of our favourite tennis couples is tying the knot! After dating for eight years it is believed that Novak Djokovic proposed to Jelena Ristic in Monte Carlo. Novak's mum confirmed the news saying,
I swear there is more bitchiness in men's tennis than women's. Ernests Gulbis, who has just helped send Latvia to World Group I for Davis Cup 2014, has given his thoughts on Novak Djokovic.
Ernests and Novak used to be friends; Ernests once even said Novak inspired him to work harder. The two used to hang out as juniors before Novak got really good. Ernie, as we all know, kept on partying.
According to a French website and translated by @Nole1989, Ernests has said he no longer likes Novak.
"I don't like Djokovic that much. We know each other since I'm 12. He was a normal guy then, but since his first big success he changed, his eyes changed. We never fought, but I felt he changed because of success. And I don't like people like that. I like strong characters that don't change because of success or money. That's why I be careful not to change myself".
It sounds like a bit of jealousy might be the case here... or perhaps it's like when your friend gets a new boyfriend and suddenly they never come out partying and are so not fun anymore. Regardless, Novak has clearly changed for the good of his tennis career and Ernie... hasn't. Oh well, he's still cute right?!
EDIT: A big thank you to the commenter below who found most of the interview here. Here are some more highlights from the interview, where he talks about Federer, Wawrinka, money, girls, money and more money!
It was an awesome 5 set semifinal between Stanislas Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic at the 2013 US Open, but what was even more awesome was Stan's post match interview with Mary Joe Fernandez where, after getting a standing ovation for his effort, he said:
"....it was again a tough match, tough loss, he's uh, he's f**king strong."
I love a random F-bomb, especially when it's meant as a compliment. You? Check it out at around the 30 second mark. Enjoy!
Stan didn't just drop 1 F-bomb he dropped 2!!!! During his post-match press conference he started cramping, threw his head back, and with a big smile said, "Ahhhhh F***K!!!! Stan is the MAN!
The US Open is generally considered the Grand Slam where players can truly let loose when it comes to fashion. The glittering New York skyline has inspired many patterns and sparkles, while New Yorkers have a reputation for being open-minded and creative. It's probably my favourite fashion slam, and despite style queen Maria Sharapova giving it a miss this year, there's still plenty of exciting outfits to lust and laugh over.
