Azarenka and Kyrgios Get Flirty

I follow both Kyrgios and Azarenka on Instagram, and I started noticing Nick's habit of liking all of Vika's posts and commenting on them. He even asked her to play mixed dubs at one point! But until recently, Vika had been silent on the whole thing. Until now... check out their Twitter convo from last night.

US Open Day 1: Bees, Potty Mouths and Almost Upsets

In a day of 'almost' upsets, Nick Kyrgios managed to pull one off over 32 year old veteran Mikhail Youzhny. The dangerous Aussie faced the 21st seed out on court 17, and from what I hear it was a great match, (I caught the end of the second set at 3am... and went back to sleep). After winning the first two sets, Kyrgios let his foot off the pedal enough to allow Youzhny to storm back and claim the third set 6-2, but Youzhny failed to serve out the fourth to take the match to a fifth. Kyrgios took his opportunities in the tiebreak, something he's becoming quite well known for. Another thing he's becoming known for? Emotional tirades. Kyrgios earned three code violations for hitting a ball out of stands and two audible obscenities... one more and he would have been disqualified. Kyrgios apologised on Twitter for his outbursts.

Pat Rafter and Nick Kyrgios Star in Bonds Underwear Ad

I've seen worse advertisements than Bonds Underwear's latest, that's for sure! Nick Kyrgios is Bonds' latest signing, and he sought advice from modelling guru Pat Rafter in their latest advert. It's kind of cringe-worthy, kind of funny. And kind of awkward to be confronted with Nick's crotch for such a long time!! Not that I'm complaining...

Wimbledon Recap: Day 4

Getty ImagesWimbledon has been reasonably upset-free so far, (unlike last year), but I was hoping Aussie teen Nick Kyrgios would be able to pull off the upset over Richard Gasquet. Wimbledon is on pretty late in Australia so after Nick dropped the first two sets 3-6 6-7 I went to bed. Nick was playing Ok, his serve perhaps wasn't clicking as much as usual, but Gasquet just looked too solid. So imagine my surprise when I woke up, (at 2am, to watch soccer) and saw Nick pulled off the upset 10-8 in the fifth. It's a really exciting time for Aussie tennis fans who don't want to support Bernard Tomic. Nick is confident and has swagger, but he's humble and hard-working too. He takes on wildcard Jiri Vesely in the third round, who took out Gael Monfils in five sets.

Introducing Nick Kyrgios

Julian Finney: Getty ImageIt's exciting for me when a promising Australian comes along who doesn't give off the vibe of being a jerk. It's common in my adopted country for sports heroes to have massive chips on their shoulders. I'm not sure if it is the underdog status or the highly competitive nature of Australians that makes them that way, but I find that it's hard to root for the majority of Australian sports people. Lleyton Hewitt in his prime and Bernard Tomic are just two examples.

Yesterday, Nick Krygios, the junior world No.1 and current Australian Open boy's champion, announced his arrival to the big boys' club when he beat Radek Stepanek in three tiebreak sets. He received entry to the main draw courtesy of a wildcard after countryman John Millman withdrew with injury.
