Entries in Maria Sharapova (88)
Maria Sharapova is currently in Russia to showcase the city Sochi for NBC, the home of the 2014 Winter Olympics. While there, she returned to one of the courts at the Evgeniy Kafelnikov Tennis Academy where she started her career; a court that Nike recently refurbished in her honor to offer inspiration to the local tennis community. Pretty cool right?
What is even cooler is that there is a mural of Maria on the court as well as this inscription,
This is more than a line on a wall. It’s where a little girl hit her first thousand tennis balls. It’s daring to go further. It’s defying the doubters. It’s deciding what you want. Then doing something about it. This is not just a line on a wall. It’s where legends are made.
Maria said this about re-opening the court,
Maria Sharapova loves the heat? Maria Sharapova fans were tense last night as she was almost upset in 2nd round of the Australian Open. She was throwing (and screaming) everything she could at her opponent Karin Knapp while playing in the "extreme heat," but couldn't seem to close out the match. However, after 3 hours and 28 minutes of play, the longest WTA match thus far at the Open, she finally got the W.
After the match she signed the camera, "Love the heat baby!" But, I think she was telling a little fib because this EPIC Gif shows how she really felt about the heat during play.
"So take off all your clothes!"
We wish right? Wouldn't that be a sight - all the players in their birthday suits on the court. Well....now back to reality. Apologies for being a little behind on our roundups! The heat is affecting us too as Kait is at the Open as a fan and has no energy left for blogging after being in 107 - 108 degree temperatures for a couple of days. And to be honest, that has been the real story for the past 2 days...the HEAT!
Players were passing out on courts - Frank Dancevic was unconscious for about a minute after he hallucinated that he saw a cartoon character,
"I was dizzy from the middle of the first set and then I saw Snoopy and I thought, 'Wow Snoopy, that's weird.' "
Maria Sharapova topped the Sports list of Forbes' annual '30 Under 30' which was released yesterday. So what are the reasons she tops the list?
1. She is still the world's highest paid female athlete, netting a whopping 29 million in 2013.
2. She launched her first independent business, Sugarpova.
3. She is covering the Sochi Winter Olympics for NBC.
I'm still not totally sold on the correspondent part, as she can get a little goofy in interviews, but I'm hoping she'll figure it out.
