Hair Mojo: Fernando Verdasco

PARIS - NOVEMBER 09: Fernando Verdasco of Spain in action during his second round match against Arnaud Clement of France during Day Three of the ATP Masters Series Paris at the Palais Omnisports on November 9, 2010 in Paris, France. (Photo by Michael Steele/Getty Images)

To say that Fernando Verdasco has been struggling is an understatement, the current World Number 9 had only won 1 match since his quarter-final appearance at the US Open.   But that all changed yesterday after revealing a new shorter 'do at the BNP Paris Masters.  He finally scored a win, rallying back from a set and a break down to defeat hometown player Arnaud Clement.

Shorter hair, lighter step?   If it's the hair that makes the man then perhaps this new hair mojo will take him all the way to the Barclays World Tour Finals.

Up next for the Spaniard........Gael Monfils in round 3.  May the best hair win.

Photos: Del Potro, Verdasco, Melzer and Gulbis Arrive in Bangkok

Juan Martin Del Potro, Fernando Verdasco, Jurgen Melzer, and Ernests Gulbis have all arrived in Bangkok.

Yes, I am as confused as you when it comes to what Fernando Verdasco is wearing, and no, unfortunately he hasn't cut his hair yet.

Tournament to start tomorrow.

God's Gift to the Twitterverse: Fernando Verdasco

Ahhhh, Fernando Verdasco.  We all know that he is by far one of the sexiest tennis players, but via the Twitterverse, he has shown that he has personality to boot!   He is hands-down, THE most entertaining tennis tweeter that I follow, and he can always be counted on for a smile with his play-by-play tweets, usually accompanied by a twitpic.  Here is a little taste:

Rafa is the Last Spaniard Standing: Who Woulda Guessed

No surpise here.  Rafael Nadal is the last Spaniard standing at the US Open, after defeating Fernando Verdasco in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.  Initially is seemed that this match would go the distance; Fer came out smoking in the first set and was immediately up a break, which was the first time Nadal had been broken this tournament, but in typical fashion, Rafa found his form in the wind, and took the next 2 sets without Verdasco getting a look at another break point. And Then There Were Two

BARCELONA, SPAIN - DECEMBER 06: Spanish players Feliciano Lopez (L), David Ferrer (C), Rafael Nadal, team captain Albert Costa and Fernando Verdasco celebrate with the Davis Cup trophy at the end of the final match between Spain and Czech Republic at the Palau Sant Jordi stadium on December 6, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. My heart broke a little yesterday, but it was unavoidable.  La Armada Invencible is now only reduced to 2 players at the 2010 US Open.  Last night Fernando Verdasco eliminated his good friend David Ferrer in a tight 5 set match winning 5-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6, and likewise, Rafael Nadal dispatched fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Andy Murray is out of the US Open, but I haven't completely dealt with that yet, so let's talk about the good first.

Outside of the above statement, everything so far has gone as expected today in Flushing Meadows and La Armada Invencible is out in full force.  Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco, David FerrerFeliciano Lopez, and Tommy Robredo all won their 3rd round matches today.
