Li Na: Roland Garros Champion
Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 12:18PM
Li Na was already the first woman in a country of 1.3 billion people to win a WTA singles title, then the first to break into the top 10, and then the first to make it to a Major final. But now she will be known as the first Chinese woman to win a Major, as she defeated Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 7-6 (0) to win the French Open crown. She is a trailblazer, with her team embodying that spirit as they wore T-shirts with the words "Be Yourself" emblazoned on the front. When interviewed after the match, Mary Carillo joking made a comment that she would never have to buy a drink in China again, and she responded, "Yeah, I think I will drink a lot." I think you've earned the right to be in a drunken stupor for a few days. She absolutely Nailed it. Cheers!
