Ivanovic, Wozniacki, Tsonga, and Simon Play Stické Tennis
Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 12:05AM In the second installment of 'The Game Is The Game' where Adidas tennis players are challenged in tennis-based games from around the world, tennis stars Caroline Wozniacki , Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Ana Ivanovic and Gilles Simon played Stické Tennis - a racquet sport invented in the late 19th century merging aspects of real tennis and all the basics of lawn tennis with the addition of side and back walls.
The players were placed in mixed teams with local Melbourne sporting stars: Ash Barty, Dale Thomas, and Billy Slater, and just like when Andy Murray kicked off the series with Road Tennis, they were given less than an hour to learn the rules and master their skills before they battled it out in an iconic Melbourne laneway turned into party central with a DJ, breakdancers as ball boys, and graffitied walls as part of the court.
Women’s World number 1, Caroline Wozniacki, said once all the players got the hang of the modified street game they naturally became very competitive.
"Today was so much fun. I've always loved exploring Melbourne's laneways for shopping and restaurants, I didn't expect to be playing a game of tennis down there! Playing off the walls was tough at first, but once we got the hang of it we all had a great time", Wozniacki said.
