If Tennis Players Were Celebrities Part 2

Have you ever wondered who your favourite player would be if they were a Hollywood actor or rock star? Tennis players get asked from time to time who they'd chose to represent them in a movie, but often the person they pick is who they admire most, not who resembles them. So here at OnTheGoTennis we have decided to answer these burning questions once and for all.

Y'all wondered where Maria Sharapova was last time we did this. Well, we have her perfect match...

Ok, maybe not the perfect match... but both Gwyneth Paltrow and Maria lead pretty enviable lives. Perfect blonde hair? Tick. Stunning figure? Tick. Wonderful home life? Tick. Successful career? Tick. Humblebragging down to a fine art? Absolutely.

Both these women are getting better with age. Maria may or may not be playing her best tennis right now, and Gwyneth is perhaps not making her best movies, but their side careers have really taken off. As Maria goes from strength to strength as a brand that can sell anything from cars to phones, Gwyneth has molded herself into the perfect healthy living role model.

Both women have a reputation for being somewhat aloof and managing a tightly controlled image. They can be warm when they want to be, but we do not really see any side of these ladies they don't want us to, (in fact, Gwyneth is currently doing her utmost to prevent Vanity Fair magazine from running an article without her approval). The major difference between these two? Maria sells and eats candy while Gwyneth sells cookbooks promoting organic food! I can't see Gwyneth indulging in Sugarpova anytime soon!

In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if Novak Djokovic picked up one of Gwyneth's health books. He's passionate about health, although prefers to be seen as a funny guy. Kind of like...

Will Smith!  Attractive, well dressed and always at the center of attention (not to mention their penchant for petite woman) there isn't much that separates these two men, except for the fact that Will, aka The Fresh Prince, is a much (MUCH) better rapper and dancer:

Both are leading men in their respective careers and their fans absolutely adore them. Nole sometimes gets a bad rap (pun intended) for being a little aggressive with his actions/emotions on the court, but if you get up in Will's face he will get a little agro too:

They're pretty quirky as well. Smith dabbles in Scientology and Novak has some... um... less than conventional dietary advice, but we can forgive their oddballness. How can you not with those smiles?!

Another player with a great smile is Serena Williams. But she sure can get a little feisty, much like...

Madonna! These two ladies are the epitome of the three Fs:  Fit, Fierce and Fabulous! Both these women push the envelope in fashion and are like a fine wine that gets better with age. And unlike the rest of us mere mortals, they both can work the hell out of a black body suit.  We think they could be the ultimate besties in real life, just don't tell Madonna that Re Re once wore this.

Both women haven't let age stop them from being at the top of their respective careers. They've reinvented themselves time and time again and shown the young guns how it's done. They've overcome controversy and critics by staying true to themselves, all while keeping up their incredible figures.

Madonna and Serena are both self-proclaimed cougars, and we think they would jump at the chance to date a guy like Rafael Nadal, whose chiseled abs and "come hither" eyes really remind us of.....

Channing Tatum!

Even though both these men sizzle on the screen and on the court, away from their areas they can be a little... dull? Both men have been in long term relationships for quite some time: Channing has been with the same woman since 2006 and Nadal has been with Xisca pretty much forever. Neither give particularly enlightening interviews or wow us with their skills in wit and language. But both work their arses off and considering their good looks it is pretty impressive how down-to-earth and scandal-free they remain.

Neither is shy. Channing got his start modeling (and stripping!) while Nadal has been known to shed his clothes for Armani. We're not complaining.

Yet while they both could have a different girl every night if they wanted, they seem like the kind of men to come home to "the girl next door." Perhaps someone like our tennis sweetheart Sloane Stephens, whose infectious smile reminds us of....

Reese Witherspoon!

These gorgeous women are exactly what comes to mind when you think of "American sweetheart". While Reese is the ultimate Southern Belle, Sloane is probably what Katy Perry had in mind when she wrote California Girls. They're both about as American as you can get, from their warm laughs to fiery ambition.

As sweet as they may be, both women have a little spice in them. Sloane took a lot of heat when she spoke with the media about her beef with Serena Williams. But hey, everyone has a little "cray" moment occasionally. Exhibit A, B and C:

So, they both did something stupid and slightly embarrassing for the whole world to see. Reese's case is obviously a lot more mortifying... but she's got many years on Sloane so there is still time yet! Oh well, we'll take our girl next door with a side of spice any day, otherwise you are just booring.

Boring is a word a lot of people use to describe Andy Murray. But as it turns out, he's kind of polarising. While Kait thinks Murray is hilarious and loves his dry sense of humour, Rachel has almost nodded off in some rather flat press conferences of his. So that left us a little stuck as to which celeb he reminds us of. Who is sensible and serious, yet can be so childlike that he has an addiction to his PS3 and ran around like a little kid when he hit Ivan Lendl with a tennis ball? Who is sarcastic and dry, but also a bit of a grumpy old man from time to time? It's just not easy!

So we are handing the task over to you. Suggest which celebrity most resembles Andy Murray in the comments box below and you could be in to win some awesome clothing from Athletic DNA. First place gets to pick two match pieces from a recent collection, while the runner up gets one piece.

Good luck!

I think ANDREW GARFIELD resembles Andy Murray. They both got same facial expressions.

I think Murray is the Rob Pattinson of tennis. Both seem to be pretty nice, decent guys, but seem to be quite dull and to themselves.

What about Murray and Lebron James? They're both undeniably talented and polarizing- which is remarkable considering how boring they are (sorry!). They also both seem to have a pretty good following on social media. Plus, they're both faux royalty! Lebron is frequently called King James, while Murray has been dubbed Sir Murray!!

"Who is sarcastic and dry, but also a bit of a grumpy old man from time to time?" this line made me think about Chandler from friends, and he played tennis in one episode..haha

Maria as Goop. Spot. On.

For some reason I keep thinking of an Andy - Leonardo Dicaprio parallel. Both undeniably talented in their chosen field, both inclined to give short, standard answers to questions the majority of the time. Every time I read or see an interview where they do open up, however, I'm always impressed by their thoughtfulness. They are also both huge sports fans, and obviously HAVE a sense of humor while still somehow giving off a "cranky old man" vibe lots of the time (probably a media scrutiny thing).

Of course they aren't even close to the same age and look nothing alike so it's probably just me. :) Fun game though!

Because of the polarising nature of Andy Murray.... I have two suggestions.

Jon Heder ( Napoleon Dynamite) - in many an angst ridden photo Andy has a look of Napoleon... though Andy is a lot more likeable than the stubborn, permanently bored looking Heder/Dynamite,

My other suggestion is Benedict Cumberbatch.... an interesting actor who looks good in a suit and has complexity... just like Andy.

S - We want to pick you as the winner, we think Andy Murray as Leo Dicaprio is a pretty good match. However you haven't left an email. Please email asap, otherwise we will have to pick another winner.
