Cooling Down With Tomas Berdych

Image from Tomas's Facebook Page

We caught up with Tomas Berdych after his match with John Isner at the Sony Open. Enjoy!

What is the biggest misconception people have about you?
Well, I don’t know what it is right now.  I used to remember when I start my social media specially Twitter, they thought I was pretty boring.  I don’t do anything on the court.  Then when I tried to win my matches, I sometimes argue with umpire, as everybody else do, and then that was all they saw.  Nothing special with this guy.  But that’s my job, that’s what I need to do on court, to stay focused and try to play my best.  Off court, I can show more of my personality which is different.  Now they can see it [on Twitter].

What is the last gift you received?
Hard to say.  I want to think of something special.  Well, I will see my girlfriend for the first time in four weeks.  So, that’s going to be the best gift I can get.

What is the last gift you gave?
I have something for my girlfriend. (Laughs)

If I could visit your hometown, where should I visit?
It’s not my hometown but I would say go to Prague. You will like it.  It’s a beautiful city.  I also live in Monaco which is like a small town almost the size of this tournament.  That’s worth a visit as well.

How do you spend your time in Miami outside of the tennis?
It’s a beautiful city with nice weather.  But I’m here to keep winning and want to want to stick with that and try to do my best.

Why did you join the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL)? (He is on Team Singapore with Andre Agassi, Patrick Rafter, Lleyton Hewitt, Serena Williams, Bruno Soares, Daniela Hantuchova, and Nick Krygios.)
The attraction of something new coming up, just to try, you know I like to try different stuff. I think this is a very ambitious project and to be part of that is great.  It’s going to be a lot of new experiences and lots of fun.  To be with a team like Andre and Pat Rafter is something different.  I am not saying it’s boring but these guys [ATP players] you see them every week. I’m not complaining about it.  We are in the best tennis era ever but it’s nice to see these other guys and chat with them.
