We caught up with American tennis player Varvara Lepchenko at the Sony Open as she was cooling down after her 2:59 hour match against Tomljanovic. Enjoy!
If you could only have 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
What is one thing that you would change about yourself?
I wouldn’t change anything.
What is one of your best quality?
This is not a question to me. You should ask my team. (With some prodding) I am a kind person. I let people get into matches (laughing…she led 5-2 in the 3rd set and finally won it in a tiebreak).
What is the last gift you gave someone?
A hat for my fitness coach. (Laughing)
Last gift you received?
A phone charger from my physio. (Answer helpfully given by a member of her team as she was stumped). A phone case and a charger. My phone kept dying all the time.
If I came to your house for dinner, what would you cook me?
I would make you some good steaks and stir fry.
What is the biggest misconception people have about you?
That I’m a very serious person but I’m not (team laughs).
What is the strangest thing you've ever eaten?
Frog legs. I had it in China.
Not in France?
No, in China. I had some kind of bugs. It was fried and had some toppings. It was actually good.
