Andy Murray Goes "Street"
Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 12:23PM Prior to the start of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Andy Murray went to a secret location to take part in a challenge by Adidas to launch the new Adipower Barricade 7.0 tennis shoe. The challenge pitted Murray against the world's best player of Barbadian Road Tennis, which is a cross between table tennis and traditional tennis and is played on the street. Andy's good friend, former boxing champion David Haye also participated in the competition and rapper Example was the umpire for the event.
Andy had never played Road Tennis before and he was only given only 1 hour to learn the rules of the game.
Always the competitor, Andy enjoyed the challenge:
I had good fun on the day, it's certainly a different way to prepare for the Masters Finals!
It was the first time I've played Road Tennis, and it's a very fast. The angles are different, and it took a bit of getting used to I but I got the hang of it and was getting quite into it by the end.
I played a few decent points, but I'm definitely better on a full sized tennis court.
The event marks the start of a yearlong campaign by Adidas called "The Game is the Game."
