Let me start off by saying, I NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER thought I would write something about Justin Bieber on my website. Chalk it up to being too old, not cool enough, or maybe it's just that I like my men to be able to express their feelings instead of egging houses and peeing in mop buckets but, I'm definitely not a #belieber. However, our new tennis sensation Eugenie Bouchard is, which is totally ok because she's only 19 years old and therefore still allowed to make bad decisions, (I'm looking at you Serena).
The twerk was sooooo 2013, let me introduce you to the new dance craze, the HOP SQUAT! At least this is the only way I can describe Rafael Nadal's celebration after winning the 2nd set tie break against Grigor Dimitrov. He punctuated the win with a huge "VAMOS!!!!" that I could almost hear in the US. Rafa went on to win the match in 4 sets which sets up a clash with none other than Roger Federer! I honestly don't care that we are going to see another FEDAL, I just want to see Rafa do this again. Do you have a better description for Rafa's celebratory dance? If so, sound off in the comments below.
David Ferrer pushed a linesman during his quarter-final match against Tomas Berdych at the Australian Open and might have to pay a hefty $20,000 fine. The fine would be for "unauthorized touching," which sounds really creepy, but is exactly what he did to the guy when he went to grab his towel off the chair. I'm pretty sure the linesman didn't "authorize" that shove. Check out the video below....
For someone who said this in 2012....
"I love Vika. You could tell me she sucks toes, I wouldn’t care. She’s been nice to me since I met her for the 1st time." -Sloane, to me '12— Lindsay Gibbs (@linzsports) January 20, 2014
.....there was definitely no love lost yesterday between Sloane Stephens and Victoria Azarenka, because in their quarter-final match at the Australian Open they exchanged some serious body blows. Sloane went for Vika's "lady bits" and then Vika said, "OFF WITH HER HEAD!"
So what happened since 2012? First, Sloane made a huge ranking leap, and then there was the drama at the 2013 Australian Open when the two played in the semis and Vika took a controversial medical time-out and then went on to win the match. Anyhoo, go ahead and press play to see the ladies, who happen to share an agent, try to take each other out. Gotta love the drama!
Channel 7 cleared up a rumor yesterday that Sloane Stephens was celebrating Serena Williams being upset by Ana Ivanovic at the Australian Open. Multiple people had tweeted that Stephens high-fived her hitting partner after Serena lost and it's no secret that these two aren't particularly fond of each other. However, what really happened was that Sloane was mimiking Ana Ivanovic's team after her win, and you can see in the video above that there were definitely no high-fives going around. Now....it's up to you to decide why she had that big smile on her face, or whether mimiking Ana's team was a good idea when there are always camera lurking. Check it out.
They sure do make them tough in Australia! Florian Mayer was returning the serve of David Ferrer and it ended up clocking a poor ball kid right in the face. Ouch! He took it like a champ though because in what felt like a millisecond he bounced back like it didn't even happen. I'm gonna guess he has quite the nice shiner this morning though.
When you get into the second week you must bath with a slam winner to get the feeling... pic.twitter.com/tgzP6sA8nz— roger rasheed (@roger_rasheed) January 18, 2014
.....make it into the 2nd week of the Australian Open together! Grigor Dimitrov beat Milos Raonic yesterday and made it to the 2nd week of a Major for the 1st time. So, to celebrate, he jumped in the ice bath with Andy Murray (Maria Sharapova who?) to soak up all the wisdom he could about winning a slam. There is so much to say about this picture that I've decided to say nothing at all. Just enjoy...
